Byron Coathup works as an artist, designer and curator.  Byron completed a Bachelor of Fine Art [2008] at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, Gold Coast, including study abroad at the Alberta College of Art & Design in Alberta, Canada, and a Graduate Diploma in Graphic Design [2011] at RMIT in Melbourne. Byron has worked as a freelance graphic designer for Gold Coast City Gallery and Bleach Festival, and has continuing his active engagement as a graphic designer on the Gold Coast.  Byron's creative drive is expressed through his ambitious artworks and installations where he has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at Testing Grounds (Melbourne), The Walls Art Space (Gold Coast), Gallery HOTA, M-Arts (Murwillumbah), Bleach* Arts Festival and Falls Festival (Byron Bay).

His most recent work, Super Souvenir, was recently exhibited as part of The Gold Coast's Commonwealth Games Arts and Cultural Festival 2018.

Byron’s work is multi-disciplinary and his practice is concerned with the crossovers between art, design and popular culture. He often combines mixed mediums and objects that are suggestive of his ideas. His conceptual framework; often project driven - reflect his surrounds living between the Gold Coast and the Northern Rivers. Byron has spent time working on large projects that are placed outside the gallery walls and within a festival arena. His drive to collaborate and curate a sense of community through his artists network is evident in projects such as; Borderlands (2019), Super Souvenir (2018) and Maverick Hair & Art Space (Coolangatta). His work is evident in the details of these spaces he transforms and the reinterpretations of objects that have had a life before.
